Beef Stroganoff

“This beef stroganoff is easily one of our most enjoyed recipes, and has continued to pass down through the generations from my grandma, another excellent cook! My family likes to use different game meat such as elk or deer, and this is a perfect beef stroganoff recipe for them. Deer can often times have a very “gamey” flavor, but with done right, you will not notice anything. Just ask our many visitors who have eaten this beef stroganoff thinking it was actually beef! -Jake

INGREDIENTS:

1 lb beef tenderloin tips.
*elk and deer work great as well
2 onions chopped
1/2 square butter
2 tsp soy sauce
1 cup sour cream
2 6oz tomato paste
1/2 tsp salt
rice or noodles

DIRECTIONS:

Brown meat and onion. In a crock pot add butter, tomato paste, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook on low 2-3 hours. Add sour cream and serve beef stroganoff over rice or noodles.

    Ja … cool … beef stroganoff is a fantastic meal … esp. in colder months. But I generally eat it with a rice and wild rice combination.

    I would like to try this but have 3 questions. 1-what do you brown the beef in (oil? butter? and how much)?? 2-also how much is 1/2 square butter and is that what you put into the crock pot? 3-Do you add any liquid with the tomato paste?

    Brown the meet in approximately 1Tbs of oil. 1/2 a square of butter is 1/4 a cup. We do not add any liquid to the tomato paste. Hope this helps.
